Some days, just showing up is the PR.
Truth… today being one of those days.
I never thought 20,000 would be a significant number in my life (other than maybe student loan debt…), but it seems to have proven me wrong…
Because we love you, Anna <@thisfearlesslife>.
2 PRs and a funeral.
I guess you can call busting the coach’s personal slosh pipe she’s had for years a PR too… but one I don’t ever wanna break.
305 lb front squat tonight… that makes for a 55 lb PR from January. Also tried my legs at yoke carries for the first time… 490 lb for 30 ft repeats. Before class, coach told me I should be at 600 lbs… apparently I’ve got some work to do.
I’m on this new “diet trend”, as my wife would say. It’s from the blog of fourhourworkweek.com. It basically has 4 simple rules:
- don’t drink calories (I pretty much only drink water and black coffee with the occasional sweet tea… so this isn’t that hard)
- no carbs that are, or can be, white… he goes on to say unless it’s within 1.5 hours of an intense resistence based workout, but I’m just using this portion as an excuse for an almond milk protein shake.
- eat the same few meals over again - mostly proteins, veggies and legumes (to keep caloric intake high enough for sufficient energy levels)
- take 1 day off a week to eat whatever - anything is fair game. The science behind this has to do with caloric spiking to keep the thyroid from becoming under productive due to low carb intake.
I like this, because I basically did paleo like this (with cheat meals) and once saw significant loses. The only problem I found was decreasing energy levels when combining with intense (CrossFit) workouts. I’ve been on this for a week and after feeling as good today as I did after the WOD from yesterday, plus hitting the PRs, I’d say I’m a fan of this.
My scale is jacked up, and I’ve yet to take measurements/pics… but I will this weekend, and hopefully find a decent scale.
Hope ya’lls Friday is treating you right. Happy weekend.
Remember this face? I used to have this blog with hilarious/thoughtful/probably annoying/tl:dr/interesting/not so interesting/running/CrossFit/Canadian filled/bromance filled/sometimes healthy food filled/mostly pizza and donut filled posts.
It was great. I was making progress in health and life…
But then I wasn’t. Success in one part of my life led to failures in many others. Immense happiness in some areas left others wanting and ignored. I discovered that I’m really good when focusing on one area in finding success and happiness, but I suck when it comes to the whole package… and it’s time for a change in my approach.
So here’s to change. Rededication to all areas I value most in my life. My wife. Our family. My physical and mental health. My career. My friendships. By working at all of these faithfully in-lies the success, promoting happiness… for neither is truely found in the greatness of just one.
So, remember this face. You’ll be seeing more of me as I try to have it all. And this, to me, is something to be greedy about.
I got the chance to ride hundreds of k’s today with three pretty awesome girls… one is my favorite, but I’m not saying who.
Within the first 2k, my back tire had basically exploded. More like started to disintegrate. Either way, 2k in and I was already holding us up. 40 minutes later, our supposed 5 hours of flat 98 k’s was underway. It was the third leg-numbing hill that I realized our 5 hours of k’s wouldn’t quite cover 100 of them.
6.5 hours later of laughs, great sights, grimaces, butt complaints, tour stops, non-tour stops, more hills, hearing we’re the last 4 of 5 riders still out, getting stopped by race director and told if we stay on the 100k route we’d miss the spaghetti lunch provided, going with the 100k anyway, getting stalked by said race director (actually a really nice guy) for the rest of ks to make sure we were okay, and then him telling us with 6k left that they saved some ice cream for us… it was a pretty awesome, and rather painful, day.
I do plan to ride more in the future… Once I can sit again.
The problem with taking selfies with kettle bells while copying your wife’s post from earlier is that you have to hold the kettle bell for longer than she did to make sure your melfie is accurate.
Home made wod sweat fest tonight. Kb/jump rope/sit up/pushup latter. Totals:150 kb swings, 250 jump ropes, 75 sit ups, 75 pushups - sub 20 minutes. Not much, but it’s good for being in a sauna…
Brutal but fun wod today. Due to number of people in class, it ended up being teams of 5, so that helped. My portion included 70 dead lifts, 30 wall balls, 20 KB swings (Big Bertha 70 pounder) and an 800 m run. Some how our team ended up with extra of everything and still came out on top finishing in 16:16. We had a good team - perfect balance of power, speed, agility and endurance for this wod. Like I said, a lot of (hard, painful, miserable, sweaty) fun.
Now to make a feast of eggs and random meats I can find in the fridge.
